Imaginative Wildlife
Wildlife Painting Series
This year, I decided to take the Rhinoffalo drawing I did about nine years ago and create a series based off it. I thought it would be interesting to see the animal interacting with a herd of American Bison as if it were part of the heard. The series is underway currently and I intend to finish three paintings by the end of this year.
I have learned many new skills and have gotten back to foundations of art such as technique, process and composition. I’m very excited to get this series into a gallery at some point in 2024.
Below is the first painting in the series titled “One With the Herd.” The composition is intended to partially conceal the Rhinoffalo so as to increase the chance of missing it at first glance. This sets the fantasy animal in a natural setting

It all begins with an idea. In 2014, I thought it would be interesting to see a bison bred with a rhino and what that would look like. I called this creature the “Rhinoffalo.”
-
Later in 2023, I started a series of paintings that depicted the Rhinoffalo coexisting with American Bison in attempts to camouflage it in a realistic setting.
-
After finishing one painting, I moved onto the next and kept going until I had a a decent amount of pieces. Going forward with this series, I’ll be doing more paintings of regular bison to try to conceal the Rhinoffalo even more.
